About

Sloan publishes evaluation scores but withholds the written comments. What a course is really like lives in group chats and spreadsheets that go stale, and reaches whoever happens to be best connected. International students and anyone still building a network end up the least informed — bidding against people who already know. This puts that knowledge somewhere it keeps.

Three words, each with its count

Reviews
What a student wrote about the class, to read in full. A star rating with no words is a rating, not a review.
Ratings
Stars from 1 to 5: students’ own, and the answers to MIT’s subject evaluations, converted from MIT’s 1–7. Every rating says how many of its ratings are MIT’s.
Bidding
What students bid and what the class went for, round by round, as ranges with how many bidding results are behind them. Never averaged.

How to read the facts

Catalog facts come straight from MIT. Each fact students tap in a review carries one of four labels and how many students reported it.

CONFIRMED
Several students say the same thing.
UNCONFIRMED
Students agree, but too few to confirm yet.
IN DISPUTE
Students disagree. Every answer is shown; none is picked.
OPINION
A judgement call. Never cross-checked, never averaged.

The rules we hold ourselves to

  1. 1Every review is published exactly as its author wrote it. Nothing is rewritten, summarised or filled in for them.
  2. 2A field nobody has reported on stays visibly empty. We would rather show a gap than a guess.
  3. 3One review per student per class. You can edit yours whenever you like.
  4. 4Write one review to read everyone else’s. Ratings and bidding are open to every signed-in student.
  5. 5Sign-in is your MIT Touchstone account. Your display name is a pseudonym; your email is never shown.
  6. 6Insults and slurs cannot be published, and a claim about a person needs you to stand by it.

Early days

Every course is from the official MIT catalog. Where nobody has said anything yet, the course page shows what is missing instead of a guess.

Some courses also carry what Sloan students said before this site existed, from their own spreadsheets and surveys: reviews, ratings and bidding, shown as each student gave them. Nothing on the site is invented.
